FOX 13: “Vaxxed” comes to Sarasota as Dr. Gary brings the pulled film to local screens
Why it matters
After the Tribeca Film Festival pulled “Vaxxed” in 2016, Dr. Gary made sure Sarasota could see it anyway. FOX 13 Tampa Bay covered the week-long run, the first time many local families heard the vaccine-autism question discussed on the evening news.

FOX 13 Tampa Bay reported on June 3, 2016, that “Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe” was screening at a Sarasota theater through June 9. The station noted that Robert De Niro had programmed the film for Tribeca in March and withdrew it less than a week later.
The report identified Dr. Gary Kompothecras, founder of 1-800-ASK-GARY, as the Sarasota entrepreneur behind the local run, and noted that he and his wife have two children with autism. It quoted his hope that expectant mothers would “begin to look beyond simple vaccine information.”
FOX 13 also included the critics’ view, pointing out that director Andrew Wakefield lost his British medical license in 2010 and that The Lancet retracted his 1998 paper. Read the full report at the link below.
